When it comes to Texas traditions, eating and experiencing great BBQ is always at the top of everyone’s list. I mean, who doesn’t love a great, mouth watering plate of BBQ with all the fixings? In fact, I love it so much, that when Texas Monthly Magazine came out with their list of the top 50 Barbecue Joints in Texas, I made it my quest to one day visit them all.
My weekends in June were spent doing just that. My husband and I grabbed our coffee each weekend morning, packed our necessities in my Saddleback Leather Backpack and we hit the road. The three BBQ joints we visited were so amazing that I didn’t even mind getting a new stain or two on my backpack. Well worth it!
Our 1st Saturday visit was to Franklin Barbecue in Austin, TX. After arriving at 7am in the morning and waiting in line almost 4 hours, we finally got to savor the yummy goodness of their brisket and ribs. Both were mouth watering and fall-off-the-bone amazing to the last bite. The crew at Franklin really know their BBQ! No wonder they are always one of the top picks for Best BBQ Joints in Texas. The line at Franklin may have been forever long, but the wait was well worth it. I loaded up on some cool Franklin Barbecue swag, stuffed it into my Saddleback Leather Backpack, and we were off to our next adventure.
The next BBQ joint on our list to visit, this time on a Sunday for lunch, was a great little spot in Austin called Stiles Switch BBQ and Brew. Our favorite here was their amazingly tender brisket and juicy jalapeno cheddar sausage, that we later found out is all homemade. Top it all off with a great craft beer and we were set for the day!
For our last BBQ joint visit, we chose Snows BBQ in the tiny little town of Lexington, Texas. Snows BBQ is only open on Saturdays from 8 am until they run out, which is usually no later than noon (if not sooner.) The Pit Master, Tootsie is a well known legend in the BBQ world and we soon found out why, once we tasted her “oh so tender” and moist brisket and juicy pork steaks! We were in heaven! Again, a long line well worth waiting in to try this amazing BBQ. The potato salad (a 100 year old recipe) was amazing too and a great addition to any BBQ plate. With very full bellies and a few new BBQ stains on my backpack, we loaded up with Snows swag so we could later brag to our friends about tasting the best BBQ in Texas, voted number 1 by Texas Monthly Magazine and clearly by us!
